New Security Upgrade

Click the picture to enlarge.SSL Certificate Installed . . .

You may have noticed a few glitches with the Cayman Register over the past 2 weeks. We've been hard at work installing an SSL Certificate to make the Cayman Register more secure. If you're reading this, then our new security certificate is in place and live.

This upgrade required a monumental number of alterations to the Cayman Register. Because of that, it's very likely that you may experience a malfunction or glitch. If you do, please reply to this post with details about the malfunction so that we can continue our debugging.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Re: New Security Upgrade

The log in just worked fine for me via Firefox.

Thanks for the improvement though I was never concerned about 'security' on this site, it was a little annoying to see that message.

Re: New Security Upgrade

Thanks again for upgrading us to an encrypted site Gator Bite. 👍

One difference I've noticed is that, at least from the "Recent Discussions" on the index page, we no longer have the ability to go directly to the last page (or numbered pages) of a multipage thread.

It also seems that longer thread titles are shortened and appended with an ellipsis. This may be the same behavior as before, but it seems that the shortening is more severe now (a shorter default title length than before?).

Also, if you're in there troubleshooting, could you see if there's an obvious reason why I've never been able to add a car to "my garage." Happy to troubleshoot with you on any of the issues when I'm at my desk.

Good catch on both counts. Our front page got nuked in the process of updating, causing me to have to recreate it under the gun. I did the best I could to remember how it was setup, but seeing as how I did that over 7 years ago, my memory wasn't much help...

Have a look now.

I'll circle back on this one next week.

Re: New Security Upgrade

Just noticed that the member's *Friends* list is missing from front page (although the online users list is still showing the + sign next to any friends who are signed in).

Re: New Security Upgrade

Another thing, am I misremembering or did there used to be more than 10 "Recent Discussions" threads on the main page? It seems like a shorter list than before.

Re: New Security Upgrade

Mike - this is very minor (and a repeat of post #6), but I always enjoyed glancing at the list of my *friends* who happened to be online whenever I logged in. That little section is not present in the current front page configuration, and I miss it. Thanks for listening/reading.

Re: New Security Upgrade

Another oddity - every time I refresh the home page I get an odd flash file automatically downloaded. Anybody else see this? I'm using the Chrome browser.

Re: New Security Upgrade

That's not happening to me - I'm using Firefox on a Mac. AFAIK, there's no flash modules on any of these pages. The header at the top changes to a different car picture every time any page is refreshed, but I'm pretty sure that's not Flash functionality... I think it's a database call function.

I'm guessing Chrome doesn't like the way we're loading the YouTube video in the "Welcome 718 Owners" front page announcement. YouTube uses Flash, and they've been having troubles on their end lately. I'm not going to chase my tail on that one until YouTube fixes their back end embedding issue.

I read somewhere the last couple of days this is an effort to drive more eyeballs directly to YT. In Firefox, I get just a blank space where the video used to be.

Re: New Security Upgrade

The weird flash file download thing stopped today, and the 718 video appears and plays normally. Yay!
