Picture of the Month #28

On a beautiful day last May, mrzoop found a great spot to take a picture of his 2011, Carrara
White over Sand Beige, Cayman S with PDK. The splendid spring backdrop was provided by
a small park in an area near Raleigh, North Carolina known locally as the Green Level.

Nice outdoor shot. I love how the clover in the grass ties in with the Carrara White Cayman....

Nice picture - But it brings to mind an article in Road & Track many years ago about their photo philosophy. One thing that I remember them saying is that they always took pictures of a car on a driving surface. Never in the grass. This a because we do not drive on the grass, generally. Philosophically they just believed that cars should be shown on their natural surface.

I have ofter wondered about that, especially when I see a good picture of a car such as this one.

What do you all think of this? Just wondering.

I think cars look great on grass. You had to see the 2010 Concours at the St. Charles Parade. It was on a golf course, and you've never seen so much beauty as when you mixed beautiful cars with well groomed grass and a nice contour.

The fact that this picture has gotten such a great reception makes me very happy. Why? Well, because I personally like the photo, and because I think this demonstrates that you don't need to be a professional photographer or seek out a once in a lifetime setting to pull of a great Picture of the Month. I hope other members will realize that they too can find their picture on our front page.

My mind immediately goes to the Pebble Beach Concours whenever I see a picture of a car on grass. I've never been to the Pebble Beach Concours, I've just been conditioned by TV and print to associate things that way. To me, seeing a car photographed on grass gives it an air of classiness, like those pampered perfect beauties at the Beach. In this case, I think the white looks especially nice on a green backdrop.

What a pristine setting for such a beautiful car. I love the more shallow Depth Of Field (DOF) in this photo and how it highlights the the car and the white flowers immediately in front of it but suitably blends the background out of focus. Could mrzoop provide any details as to what lens focal length, shutter speed and aperture f/stop was used for this? It looks almost like the 'Miniature/Toy' mode that many of the newer cameras provide. You have a 'wall shot' here my friend.

According to the EXIF data provided with the picture, this was shot with a Nikon D-90s, with a focal length of 70.0 mm (in 35mm: 105.0 mm) and 1/125 @ f/13.

He did say he did some Photoshop work on it.
