Picture of the Month #43

Croc'ed wears his Metro NY Region PCA DE instructor's jacket to fight-off the extreme
cold January 22, 2014, while waiting for his '07 Midnight Blue/Stone Gray Cayman to fill-up at
a gas station in Bethpage, NY. I'll let him finish the story: "The picture was taken by a co-
worker, who I ran into unexpectedly at a Hess station this morning. He said something along
the lines of, 'That’s not exactly the kind of car you’d want to drive in this weather.' To which I
replied, 'This is precisely the kind of car I want to drive! It’s got snow tires and a limited slip
differential, so I’m good to go.' He got such a laugh from my unexpected reply, that he broke
out his phone and snapped a quick photo, and sent it to me in an e-mail for posterity."

Way to go! Too much fun to lock up for the winter.
What is your secret for keeping the salt in the bay and not under the car?

One of the all time best POMs!

Looks like your suspension travel may be a bit limited though with all that snow build up in the fender wells.

Where's the front plate?!?

Great pic. The car and Croc'ed look just as "at home" in the snowy real world as they do on a race track or twisty back road. Awesome.

Thanks to beez for posting my photo as POTM, and to all of you for your positive comments. I must say, this scene is pretty amusing! Considering that my Cayman has also seen 7 years of track duty, and is rapidly approaching 100,000 miles on the odometer, I think it's a shining example of the durability and versatility of Porsche automobiles.

^ I'm pretty sure the "ice fillets" in the wheel wells improve the car's overall aerodynamic coefficient of drag, but it's difficult to quantify at 20 mph!

Those ice fillets will also give you lots down force,... but only realized when traveling at speed >150 MPH.

Actually, your car looks pretty clean in that picture. My gray GTI looks almost white. Great picture.

That's a great story. You look like you could use a warm beverage or some "medicinal" spirits.

just awesome Croc'd, I reside in the neighboring town, I'll keep an eye out for you on the roads just in case I need you to tow me out of a snow bank

That is one great picture!

I don't even take my car out in the rain, much less the snow.

Great picture! I had mine out with the stock tires about a month ago in a slight dusting and it was terrible. Good to know snow tires would work.

I resemble that remark. But I prefer to think of myself as not "freaking nuts" but rather " dedicated enthusiasts" Same outcome but I think it sounds more proper.

But like I said in earlier posts, when I bucket wash my Cayman in the middle of winter, my neighbors drive by shaking their heads. They might choose your wording over mine.

Drive safe and come on Spring. Ed

Driving in that weather, well it's your decision. Bucket washing, is just the right thing to do.

Re: Picture of the Month #43

I had the traction control light blinking angrily at me on the way to work yesterday, but we did have about 3" of snow on the ground, and I was holding the car in a 30-degree slide at the time... :-)

It'll need a bucket wash this weekend for sure !
